If you saw our last blog post or follow @ZocaloGroup, you know that we attended WOMMA’s School of WOM last week.
While many of us were participating in the School of WOM conversation online, it was hard to detect any overall trends as our Twitter feeds were inundated with live #WOMMA reporting.
Out of curiosity (and in true Zocalo fashion) we decided to go back through the online conversation from 5/9-5/13 and see what we could find. What we found were 4610 mentions of ‘WOMMA” across blogs, mainstream news, Facebook, and Twitter; and while there was a bevy of great insights that we could go on and on about, we discovered a few key topics that stood out.

This is what the conversation looked like from 50,000 feet:
743 mentions of ‘Social’ (296 mentions of ‘Social Media’) - an obvious leader when discussing word of mouth.
317 mentions of ‘Facebook’ - More mentions than any other social network!
300 mentions of ‘Influence’ or ‘Influencer’ - The topic of 4 sessions during the week. Marketers attempted to define what an influencer is, where to find them, and how to engage with them.
249 mentions of ’@BrianSolis’ - The most shared presenter. We have a feeling this might just have to do with his ‘tweetable’ slide format. Smooth move, Brian!
190 mentions of ‘Mobile’ - A new reality for WOM marketers to face. According to @AaronStrout, almost 77% of the world’s population owns a mobile device. That’s 5.3 billion subscribers that could be reached!
160 mentions of ‘Engage,’ ‘Engagement,’ or ‘Engaging’ - Everyone’s favorite buzz word!
151 mentions of ‘Community’ - Oreo (Nabisco) gave a great presentation on how to manage a global social platform. Community development and management took the spot light here.
123 mentions of ‘Twitter’ - this number seems a bit low to us, but @McDonalds gave a great presentation on social customer service which includes Twitter as a key component in their strategy.
76 mentions of ‘Geo/Location-Based’ - While there was one presentation about this topic, this number also seemed a bit low to us. Are marketers tired of talking about location-based applications for WOM?
7 mentions of ‘LinkedIn’ - A key social network that seemed to slip under the radar at School of WOM this year. How are you tapping this network for WOM?
What do you see as the most prevalent trends in word of mouth right now? Feel free to leave a comment and chime in on anything you see or trends you’ve picked up on!
